Awareness has been growing in the United States — and in nations around the world — that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has triggered a new era of great-power competition. Yet few discern the pattern in China’s inroads within every region of the world, much less the specific form of dominance to which the party aspires. The CCP aims not merely at preeminence within the established world order — an order that is grounded in free and sovereign nation-states, flows from the universal principles on which America was founded, and advances U.S. national interests —but to fundamentally revise world order, placing the People’s Republic of China (PRC) at the center and serving Beijing’s authoritarian goals and hegemonic ambitions

El libro es muy interesante, lleno de argumentos, razonamientos, tiene mucho mérito el pensar con enjundia en estos tiempos de mediocridad y persecución de la inteligencia. No obstante, el libro presenta un gran vacío: no responde la pregunta inicial, ¿Quiénes son los enemigos? ¿Quiénes son los amigos? No responde las grandes preguntas que sugiere: ¿Cuál es la posición de Venezuela? ¿Cómo se prepara para enfrentar ese papel, los retos de la posición que tome?

La oposición Heráclito/Parménides es clásica (procede de Platón). Es una oposición muy profunda y por ello ha sido formulada según criterios distintos, aunque probablemente no excluyentes. Son, simplemente, abstractos, y apelan a pares de oposiciones tales como devenir/ser, dinamismo /estatismo, pluralismo/monismo, multiplicidad /unidad, dialéctica/metafísica, energetismo/ sustancialismo. Lo que interesa subrayar aquí es que, cualquiera que sea la formulación de esta oposición, parece que la oposición misma se ha convertido en un esquema histórico, del cual no es posible prescindir cuando se trata de exponer a Heráclito y Parménides.

En este artículo nos proponemos confrontar las ideas que Platón y Aristóteles tuvieron acerca de la dialéctica y de otras prácticas asociadas con ella valiéndonos de los juicios que ambos filósofos emitieron al respecto y de la postura que mostraron ante dichas prácticas llevadas a cabo por Zenón de Elea y dos de los sofístas arquetípicos como lo fueron Protágoras y Gorgias.

Se discuten críticamente las diversas posturas acerca de la divisibilidad del espacio, del tiempo y del movimiento. De dichas posturas depende la solución de las aporías de Zenón. Se aportan serias pruebas de que ni el espacio ni el tiempo se componen de indivisibles matemáticos y de que el movimiento no se compone de quietudes, reforzando la postura Bergsoniana. También se discute el problema del infinito actual y la lógica del infinito.

Why is the universe comprehensible? How is it that we can come to know its regularities well-enough to exploit them for our own gain? In this essay I argue that the nature of our comprehension lies in the mutually agreed upon methodology we use to attain it and on the basic stability of the universe. But I also argue that the very act of comprehension itself places constraints on what we can comprehend by forcing us to establish a context for our knowledge.

This development is located as originating in the 1930s and 40s, primarily in the attempts by Werner Heisenberg and Richard Feynman to find a new theory of relativistic quantum mechanics that gets rid of the notion of state entirely.

The novel coronavirus pandemic continues to ravage communities across the US. Opinion surveys identified importance of political ideology in shaping perceptions of the pandemic and compliance with preventive measures. Here, we use social media data to study complexity of polarization. We analyze a large dataset of tweets related to the pandemic collected between January and May of 2020, and develop methods to classify the ideological alignment of users along the moderacy (hardline vs moderate), political (liberal vs conservative) and science (anti-science vs pro-science) dimensions.
